VWBL Costs & Fees
Currently, VWBL is Free to use. This page describes the future potential cost structure of VWBL.
Whenever transactions are done on the Blockchain, fees such as "Gas" are usually collected to write the transaction into the ledger.
When VWBL NFTs are minted, the normal gas fees are required to write the owner onto the Blockchain (such as Polygon, etc.). Similarly, the basis of VWBL's structure is to essentially collect a fee for storage of the split key.
Currently, VWBL is free to use, while we explore identifying and establishing the best practice model that meets the needs of our users (creators, publishers, end-users and other VWBL community members).
Differences in ERC Standards & the VWBL Fee Model
VWBL's primary use case is based on NFTs which are inherently defined as non-Fungible (thus NFT) with a single owner for a single NFT. When independent and individual creators make unique content for single user consumption, it's relatively simple to work within the ERC721 (NFT) Standard, which will be described below and within the Access Control Contracts for ERC721.
However, this becomes a bit more complex with mixed Fungible and non-Fungible standards such as ERC-1155 Standards, which support creators/publishers of content to allow several owners; there is no single "owner" for the token but instead has multiple holders. Details are listed below and within the Access Control Contracts for ERC1155.
The problem gets even more complex with ERC4907 (Rental NFTs) standards. Currently the VWBL team is awaiting to understand the community needs of ERC-4907 before investing resources to address it.
The Potential Future for VWBL's Fee/Gas Model
Currently the VWBL team is evaluating and exploring to find the most fair solution for stabilizing the protocol. The VWBL Gateway Contract is developed to potentially (currently free) collect fees in the following manners, however we aim to continue to gather information and experience common usage scenarios, listening to community feedback before bringing changes to market.
- For both ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards, when digital content is published VWBL Key Storage fees are potentially collected (when registering encryption keys).
- For ERC-1155 standards, based upon current commonly accepted publisher models, additional one-time ERC-1155 holder VWBL Decryption fees are currently being evaluated.
Fees & Pricing
Currently, costs for encryption (key storage) and decryption are subsidized this for now. Using VWBL is free! The future exact pricing for fees ("gas") above will be evaluated and adjusted over time based on community feedback.
